Doing the equivalent of above using Centos virtual machines

I choose Centos 6.6 minimal install iso image, KVM hypervisor, java 6 and tomcat 7
1. Install Centos 6.6 in a vm, then check the network IP address and convert from dhcp to static. and then disable selinux ( once the ip address is set and known it is much easier to perform all the rest of the operations by an ssh session rather than the vm console.
