I had the same problem If your laptop wifi chipset is Intel Centrino wireless. you have have to disable 11n.

 
Just correcting the formatting:
su - modprobe iwlwifi 11n_disable=1
to run on boot:
su - echo "options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1" > /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf
